The Best Archery Bow Release

Bow hunting or sport shooting is a popular past time for many people. It harkens back to an older time when things were less complicated but yet more challenging. Can you imagine dinnertime being totally dependent upon the days hunt? Even though archery is an old skill it has been brought into the 21st century with some decidedly technological advances. One of these advances is the archery release.

There are many options to consider when you are looking for an archery release. Your level of experience as well as your personal preference will figure into your decision. Here are a few types of bow releases you can choose from.

Wrist

The most common type of archery release is the wrist strap. This device has a convenient strap that goes around the wrist; this can be a buckle or a Velcro type attachment. The mechanical part of the wrist strap archery release is a set of jaws or calipers that hold the drawstring until you pull the trigger. These are very easy to use and reasonably priced.

Hand Held Bow Release

Competitive archers prefer the hand held release. This device is most commonly T shaped and is held in place by one or two fingers. One of the reasons competition shooters prefer this bow release is the fact that they are much lighter and smaller in size, which increases their edge in competition.

This type of archery device is triggered using back pressure and your thumb or pinky finger. As far as bow release devices go this one requires a good deal more practice than the wrist strap design. You will want to spend some time practicing to master this archery release.

Automatic Release

We have remote controls for everything now days and unbelievably archery releases are no exception. While this is not a true remote control, this bow release is close. This is a device you can preset to release through an automatic timer. The time frames can range from 0-6 seconds. The timer itself is activated when you reach full draw position and then releases the arrow after the determined time has elapsed. You can get this archery release with optional safety feature that gives you the ability to stop the release if the need arises. These are not recommended for the casual or beginning archer. Most often, this archery release will be found in professional competition circles.

Conclusion

There are many different types of archery releases available as well as many different manufacturers. If you are new to bow hunting or competition, you will probably want to stick with the most basic bow release available and then move on to more complex releases as your skill increases. ;)
