I mean I understand using more modern materials and so forth, but why is it so hard to find a functional bow like the ones used by celts, or romans and so forth, I mean they were deadly enough to be used by some of the greatest armies of their eras, so they must have been reliable designs.

My 14 year old son wants to do archery and he wants a bow and arows for his birthday. we have a reasonably large backyard. He has a cousin who is an olympic level archeist. He says he really wants it and will use it lots. We live in an urban area not skyscrapers but houses, we also dont live very close to any rangers. We live in Sydney Australia. Should I buy it for him? Is it leagel to do it in our backyard?

Hi, Im looking to get into archery and don’t really know what Im doing. I looked it up and some sites said recurve bows are best for beginners, so thats what I looked up.
Also, Im 17yrs old, 120lbs and 5’6" so any suggestions for weight and length?
Oh and this is just for recreational purposes.
